Keeping Music Alive and Well

Our Mission

The Summit High School Friends of Music fund student scholarships, instruments, travel expenses, uniforms and the many needs of the school Music Department. This not only improves our community quality of life, but further empowers, energizes and educates our students in the enjoyment of the arts.

What We've Achieved

Friends of Music funds make a real difference for the music programs at Summit—every year!

2018–2019 School Year

  • Purchased a set of professional-quality practice pads from local company, Offworld Percussion, for the percussion class.

  • Purchased a lightly used full Yamaha drumline from University of Oregon, plus funded the refurbishing of the drums. The new set of drums will be used to start a true drumline program at Summit in 2019-2020.

  • Contributed to the purchase of a beautiful Steinway grand piano for the Summit auditorium. The piano will primarily be used for choir concerts and other choral events, but will also occasionally make an appearance at band and orchestra concerts, as well as at community performances held in the Summit auditorium.

2017–2018 School Year

  • Assisted in the purchase of a full set of new Wenger Music Stands to the benefit of all three music programs.

  • Provided need-based scholarships for band and choir students to participate in tours to Seattle and Anaheim.

  • Provided meal money for students participating in honor ensembles (WIBC, All-State, All-NW ACDA)

  • Contributed to the purchase of a new Tuba for the band program.
